How Executives Should Compare Chinese AI Models
Compare Chinese AI models on your own tasks, retrieval quality, latency, deployment options, licensing and total cost per accepted result.

Choose a Chinese AI model by testing representative tasks under consistent conditions. Record the model version, prompt, retrieval setup and deployment environment for every result. A public leaderboard can suggest candidates, but it cannot determine whether a model meets your language, data, response-time and operating requirements.
What to evaluate
Task performance
Evaluate representative work, languages, failure modes and consistency.
Deployment fit
Compare cloud, private, edge and hybrid constraints.
Economics
Measure total inference, adaptation, integration and operating cost.
Governance
Inspect data handling, evaluation, versioning, security and supplier continuity.
Worked evaluation exercise
The following is an illustrative assessment exercise, not a reported customer result.
Build an evaluation set from approved or synthetic examples of the work the model will perform. Separate straightforward cases from ambiguous requests and cases that require refusal or escalation. Score correctness and usefulness before revealing the model name to reviewers. Measure latency, retries and human correction effort alongside the API or hosting charge. Retain a held-out set for the next model update so prompt tuning does not become a substitute for generalisation.
Questions for the operating team
- Which evaluation dataset reflects our real users?
- How does a model update affect validated workflows?
- What portability exists if requirements or suppliers change?
Warning signs
- One public benchmark treated as universal.
- Token price compared without quality and workflow cost.
- No regression process for model changes.
Planning the visit
Use these questions to scope an industry-focused China AI program. Agree which records and operating workflows can be examined before confirming meetings; host participation and access require confirmation. Our research method explains how we structure the brief and follow-up.
